FROM ‘FOREIGN’ TO ‘IN-DEMAND’: REFRAMING YOUR MINDSET

“Validation is for parking—not for people.”

That powerful line from today’s speaker, Kait Dinunzio, reminded us that our worth isn’t up for debate. In a world that often demands external approval—especially from newcomers navigating the “Canadian experience”—Kait encouraged us to own our value and shift our mindset from waiting to be seen, to showing up with confidence.

Through her session, we explored the Change Curve, reflected on our internal dialogue—the Tough One, the Little One, and the Wise One—and leaned into the Four Pillars of Resilience:
🔹 Problem Solving – Approach challenges with creativity and composure.
🔹 Empathy – Build bridges, not just resumes. Understanding others helps create opportunity.
🔹 Emotional Regulation – Remain steady in unfamiliar systems or when facing rejection.
🔹 Self-Confidence – Your past experience is still valid—even if unrecognized formally.

We also celebrated Hakim Habani, a former client whose journey from challenge to success was made possible through meaningful connections along with the support of CCIS' Empowering Newcomer Professionals for Careers in Sustainability Program.
